  12.      The WD1003-RAH controller is designed to interface with up to two 
  13.      Winchester ST506/ST412 RLL type hard disk drives in an IBM PC AT or 
  14.      compatible system and will support drives with up to 16 read/write 
  15.      heads and 2048 cylinders.  Each drive may be a different 
  16.      configuration.  With the 2, 7 RLL encoding feature of the WD1003-RAH, 
  17.      up to 50% more data can be compacted onto a certified RLL hard disk 
  18.      drive using a 26 sectors per track format.

  22.             DO NOT USE THE WD1003-RAH WITH MFM TYPE HARD DISK DRIVES

  25.      Installation of the controller requires three steps:  1) verifying 
  26.      jumper settings; 2) installing into the host computer; 3) formatting 
  27.      the hard disk drives.  To complete installation, you will need the 
  28.      following:
  29.      
  30.      Two hard disk cables (3 if using 2 hard disk drives); Winchester hard 
  31.      disk drive; screwdriver; MSDOS Version 2.0 or later; IBM Advanced 
  32.      Diagnostic diskette (or similar program for IBM compatibles); System 
  33.      Diagnostic Diskette (or equivalent); FDISK and Format utility 
  34.      (normally included with MSDOS).

  39.                  HANDLE THE CONTROLLER BY THE ENDS OF THE BOARD
  40.                 SOME OF THE CHIPS ARE STATIC SENSITIVE AND DAMAGE

  43.      Before you can install your WD1003-RAH, you will need to be certain 
  44.      that the jumpers (small shorting plugs) are correctly set.  Refer to 
  45.      Table 1 for correct jumper settings.  Modification of factory jumper 
  46.      settings is rarely necessary.  Modify jumpers only under the 
  47.      direction of a qualified individual; i.e. your dealer.

  155.                               accessed. This configuration also provides
  156.                               power up and down protection.

  205.      1.  Verify that your host computer has a 135 watt power supply.  If 
  206.      the disk drive(s) is(are) being installed internally, it is best to 
  207.      locate the controller in the nearest available expansion slot to the 
  208.      drive.
  209.      
  210.      2.  Remove the blank expansion slot bracket.  Put the bracket away 
  211.      and save it for possible future use.  The screw will be used to hold 
  212.      the new controller in place.
  213.      
  214.      3.  The terminating resistor must be present only on the last hard 
  215.      disk drive connected.  If there are two drives, the terminating 
  216.      resistor must be present on the second drive.  Verify proper setting 
  217.      of drive select switches for drive select 1 or 2. Refer to your 
  218.      system owner's manual for information about proper drive termination 
  219.      and select switches.
  220.      
  221.      4.  Attach 34-pin control connector pin 1 to J1 on the controller 
  222.      board.  Make sure that Pin 1 of the cable connector goes to Pin 1 on 
  223.      the controller board.  Pin 1 of the cable connector is typically 
  224.      located on the color coded side of the cable.

  226.      5.   Connect control cable to drive.
  227.      
  228.      6.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J2 (Drive C or 0).
  229.      
  230.      7.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J3 (Drive D or 1).
  231.      
  232.      8.   Connect data cables to drives.
  233.      
  234.      9.   Attach Winchester activity LED connector to J6.
  235.      
  236.      10.  Install controller board into the expansion slot. Make sure that 
  237.      the board is seated properly by pressing down on both ends of the 
  238.      board.  Secure the board with the bracket screw.

  240.                                      CAUTION
  241.                   WHEN ROUTING CABLES, BE CAREFUL NOT TO PINCH
  242.                   THEM.  CABLES MUST NOT GET CAUGHT BETWEEN THE
  243.                  COVER AND THE BOARDS, NOR SHOULD THEY OBSTRUCT
  244.                       ANY AIR FLOW PATH FROM FANS OR VENTS.
